Informational ClassWhen: Beginning June 29 | This two part class is for parents who would like some basic education on discipline, creating schedules and child development. |
Project M.A.G.I.C.When: Currently In Session | Project MAGIC ( Making a Group and Individual Commitment ) is an alternative to juvenile detention for first-time offenders between the ages of 12 and 18. The program's goals include helping youths achieve academic success; modifying attitudes about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; and enhancing life skills development and internal locus of control. This six-week prgram includes weekly prgramming for youth and their parents. |
Active ParentingWhen: Beginning October 2016 | Active Parenting of Teens will be offered by Juvenile Services. The series includes workshops for parents of teens and preteens. The program runs for up to six weeks. It provides parents with the skills they need to use effective discipline, teach responsibility and communicate with their teens. Each session also shows parents how to handle sensitive issues such as drugs, sexuality and violence. |
Strengthening FamiliesWhen: September 2016 | Strengthening Families is a seven week program that meets twice weekly for parents and their children. The program teaches children's social skills and family life skills training. It is designed for families with a high risk of substance abuse and/or child removal. |
Celebrating Families!When: August 2nd | Celebrating Families! is a 16 session skills training program for families in which one or both parents are in the early stages of recovery from substance addiction and in which there is a high risk for domestic violence and/or child abuse. The program uses a cognitive behavior theory model to achieve goals: break the cycle of abuse, reduce substance use and facilitate successful family reunification. |
Student Success GroupWhen: Tuesday evenings beginning June 28 | The Student Success Group is a peer support group for parents. Meetings are free to attend. Childcare is provided. Topics to be covered include working with the school, child development, discipline struggles and communication. |
CoachingWhen: By Appointment only | Coaching services are available by appointment only. Coaching can be done in-home or at the Family Support Center. Trained professionals will team up with parents to develop practical solutions to challenges. |
